Paweł Pijanowski is proud to announce the availability of the release candidate (RC) version of SparkyLinux 4.0, a highly-anticipated computer operating system. This new version comes in two flavors, the LXDE and Openbox desktops, and brings a plethora of updates and improvements.
Stunning visual improvements and updated packages
The upcoming SparkyLinux 4.0 is packed with refreshed packages from the latest upstream Debian 8 “Jessie” (Testing) distribution. It also features some customized elements, like the SparkyLinux software repositories, a new flat theme called Sparky4, a sleek iconset called Ultra-Flat-Icons, and a gorgeous wallpaper named Vortex.
The new release boasts a newly-integrated design for all the system’s elements, making it even more eye-catching than before. It also includes a few notable changes, such as replacing Gnome-Alsamixer with Pulse Audio Mixer in the LXDE edition, swapping XChat for HexChat as the default IRC client, and removing Wbar. Additionally, the Live Installer has been updated.
A strong community behind SparkyLinux’s success
In the words of Paweł Pijanowski, the lead developer behind SparkyLinux, “I am happy to announce SparkyLinux 4.0 RC. The new iso images provide the release candidate, before the final version of 4.0 will be out. Many of the changes and improvements have been made thanks to suggestions of our small but strong community.”
Revamped layout and updated tools
Aside from the mentioned changes and visual improvements, the RC version also brings a traditional layout for the desktop with a single panel on the bottom edge of the screen. The Boot-Repair utility has been updated for the Live CDs, while the Sparky Backup System ISO building tool can now be used both in a terminal environment and through the Yad GUI.
A complete rebranding is coming for SparkyLinux 4.0
Paweł Pijanowski reveals that the final version of SparkyLinux 4.0 will bring a complete system rebranding, meaning that the distribution will no longer be identified as Debian GNU/Linux, but as Sparky GNU/Linux. Furthermore, numerous small improvements and bug fixes have been implemented for Sparky applications, which have been moved to SourceForge git repositories.
