SparkyLinux, the favorite Debian-based operating system for advanced users, is back with an exciting new release! The upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 11 “Bullseye” operating system series has just been incorporated into the development cycle, and users can now enjoy the first snapshot, SparkyLinux 2019.08.

New Semi-Rolling Release Version

SparkyLinux has started a semi-rolling release version named “Po Tolo,” where users only need to install the operating system once and receive updates forever. This new release is based on the Debian Testing repositories, making it a stable and reliable choice for users.

The latest update, SparkyLinux 2019.08 “Po Tolo,” brings an updated system from the Debian Testing repositories as of August 1st, 2019. It also features the GCC 9 system-wide compiler, although GCC 8 remains as the default. The release is powered by Linux kernel 4.19.37, with the option to upgrade to Linux kernel 5.2.5 from the unstable repos.

Fresh Look and Feel

The most exciting aspect of SparkyLinux 2019.08 “Po Tolo” is the brand-new look and feel. It features the all-new Sparky6 theme, Tela icon set, and refreshed desktop wallpapers. Additionally, the LXQt edition has replaced LightDM with the SDDM login manager for a smoother user experience. Take a look at the stunning new design in the screenshot gallery below!

SparkyLinux 2019.08 “Po Tolo” is available to download as MinimalGUI, MinimalCLI, Xfce, and LXQt editions, and is compatible with 64-bit systems. While the 32-bit SparkyLinux Rolling edition continues to be supported, there are no ISO images available. Hence, users are advised to keep their installations up to date.

It’s important to note that the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 11 “Bullseye” operating system series is still in development and based on the Debian Unstable repositories. As such, the SparkyLinux 2019.08 “Po Tolo” snapshot should be considered a pre-release version and not suitable for production use.
